Deckhand compared
Deckhand turns a folder of HTML files, one per slide, into a presentation: a stage on the big screen, a remote on your phone, a live link the audience opens on theirs. One binary, works offline on the LAN, no account. The hosted Hub at deckhand.show is optional.
Other tools do some of this, and several of them do other things much better. These pages say which is which, without a sales pitch.
- Deckhand vs reveal.js: the HTML presentation framework. Themes, plugins, auto-animate and PDF export on one side; one binary, a phone remote and a sandboxed slide per file on the other.
- Deckhand vs Slidev: Markdown slides for developers on Vue and Vite. Great authoring, exports and a presenter mode you can open from a phone; Deckhand skips the toolchain and presents HTML you already have.
- Deckhand vs Google Slides: the collaborative editor. Co-editing, templates and audience Q&A against files you own, an offline LAN and an audience that follows live without an account.
If none of the three is your tool, the short version is the same: Deckhand does not help you write slides, it presents the ones you have. The format is in the README and in FORMAT.md; a prompt to have a language model write a whole deck is in LLM.md.
